Elimination of pre-heater build up and cement kiln rings using Adi3tek® on the Calcination line of
®Kiln # 4at Cruz Azul plant,
Lagunas Oaxaca, México

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

PROBLEM
-The calcination line at Cruz Azul Plant, Lagunas, presents severe build up problems with thermoplastic material in pre-heater and ring formation in the Kiln # 4. We seek a solution to prevent unscheduled kiln stoppages.

SOLUTION
-We recommend adding Adi3tek ® to the Pet Coke (high sulfur) and feed into the main burner and pre-calciner.

RESULTS
-Rings are removed from Kiln # 4 as well as sticky deposits in the pre-heater in approximately 72 hours. A decrease in the SO3 content in raw meal and a corresponding increase of SO3 in clinker is noted.
-Removal of significant vibration from tire # 1 of the kiln # 4 due to imbalance caused by ring formation in this section of the kiln.
-An increase from 8-10% in production is achieved, and a significant improvement in the stability of the calcining line.
-False air input to the calcining line is decreased by reducing cleaning cycles in the pre-heater from 2.5 hrs./shift to 15 minutes/shift.
-Use of theWoma pump for cleaning buildup of pre-heater is eliminated thus reducing worker risk of injury.

Next Steps
-As a result of the use of Adi3tek on the calcining line of Kiln #4, the plan is to increase the use of higher sulfur pet coke from 5% to 6.5% sulfur content starting June 15, 2012.
